Top Golf Watford was constructed in 2005 by a company based in U.S and After 5 years of wear and tear Top golf called us in to refurbish and update in 2010, the heavily worn course. We altered the layout of many holes, planted borders, resurfaced with new putting grass, enhanced the tired brick borders, changed the theming to ‘Rocky Pines’ and placed new hole signs. The previous surfacing only lasted five years and along with the unsightly borders and inappropriate planting meant this course which cost in excess of half a million on an area of around 2000m2 (yes seriously. Consider this was back in 2005!) provided very poor value. The course was a design and build that fails on a few fronts. It has impressive elements such as the water features although these are are cracked and cost around £30 k per year to refill. Water features can be leaky but £30k per year! As a whole the course lacked detail, playability and was aesthetically a little rough. After resurfacing, replanting, repainting and restructuring the holes it had a better feel to it. but generally the design remained the same. We wheeled the course back out and it has lasted 14 years. We have been called back recently and have produced redesigned plans but it appears the whole top golf site at Watford is to be renovated which means this course will be no more. Maybe the next course will be similar to our links concept, which came before the tiger woods pop stroke concept.
Renovation and/or Build over
Existing concrete pad course with worn surfacing and dated structures can either be resurfaced, rejuvenated or reinvented. Rather than demolition and starting again, this low cost alternative will bring your course back up to scratch
New Build
Not as cost effective as above but the new build option will still prove great value. From a simple set-
The Top golf, Watford course prior to renovation works pictured on the right. Some good holes, but it became dated and worn pretty quick. The surfacing only just about lasted 5 years and was well worn with severe surface degradation. The site being situated near overgrown trees added to some poor planting, means the course and water features get an excess of debris. No problem if maintenance is kept up with but left too long and it becomes a rescue mission!
