Are you not entertained! Well I am sure you will if you try out our sympathetically themed course. This course started with historical research. If you don't know where you have been then how can you know where you are going? I asked myself this question before embarking on a design that has historical elements throughout. My remit was ‘Just create a landscape mini golf course’ but of course we cant help ourselves. It had to have a look and feel of roman culture. Colchester became the first roman settlement in Ad 49 just after the reign of Caesar Augustus (Statue below). This mini golf course is situated near the original roman wall and directly on the track that led to the gateway. Not so unusual for us but this course has 14 holes, a number that unbeknown to us has some roman significance. Ill leave you to find out about that! Set on a roman theme, with each hole named as a nod the culture synonymous with Ancient Rome. The putting tracks will not only test your skills but will leave you wondering ‘would the romans have shown the patience required to master this course’? Of course they created stunning gardens and this has not been overlooked as the planting borders gives a nod to their masterful landscape skills. Plants for their formal appearance, aroma, medicine and not forgetting the royal colour of purple (plants are green but the flowers are mainly purple!). Caesar is shown below studying the line for Hole 1. Sadly he will never to get to overlook the more testing holes which is good job really as the more you look the more difficult they can become. Hole 10 is the trevi fountain and whilst working there I overheard a golfer say ‘I've been to the trevi fountain and I can say that this fountain edges it’. Ok I know he was joking and It did make me chuckle!
