Putney - Wandsworth Park, Mini Golf

Our first putt in the park course was constructed at Wandsworth park, in 2013. This was the leap of faith that we needed after building on our experience through trial and error for the previous 13 years.  We now had a budget that matched our landscaping vision at this time. We felt that the whole are of the site needed to be utilised. The idea was to have a site that blended together all the elements, into a thought out planned garden course, rather than just throwing some holes together with no thought to the outer areas. We built into the design a central pathway to link each hole. It is a plan that we feel works well for players and those who want a stroll through the gardens!  Players can leave the course at any point and get themselves a drink form the bar! These were of course pre covid times so no need to worry about player movements.

Each hole follows this race track pathway as it twists and turns.

The 12 holes are thought through to provide an entertaining experience with river jumps, pipes, dips, turns obstacles and simulated bunker sand traps. Though the difficulty can be tough on numerous holes it does provide for a fair amount of inspirational shots that some would call lucky. I tend to believe you make your own luck! The centre piece island hole shown above is and adventure in itself. Jump the water divide, but make sure the shot is hit with just the right amount of pace. Too soft and the ball drops in the water  or too hard and the ball pings of the back net or rocks and into the water. Whilst time has seen this gem of course become a little worn it still provides some iconic mini golf holes that remain true to this day. Some people still view this as our best course. It just shows that great design can stand the test of time.
